Daly City Officers were booking a man into the Jail on the charge of indecent exposure. As the suspect was being fingerprinted, he broke away and fled down Mission Street. Officer Klass chased the fugitive on foot, tackled him, and during the ensuing struggle, the suspect took Officer Klass’s gun from him and shot him in the back.
Officer Klass ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The suspect was initially convicted of first-degree murder, which was overturned. He pled to second-degree murder and was sentenced to five years-to-life.
